The United States and U.S.S.R were in a tense Cold War from the late forties till 1990. In 1960 a Russian scientist claimed to have created a new form of water, polywater. If polywater came in contact with other sources of water it too would turn viscous. This had dangerous implications, but in the end polywater was a hoax that came about due to dirty equipment.
